Springfield, IL—Kennith M. Ahrens, 99, of Springfield died at 8:15 pm, Thursday, July 5, 2018 at his home. He was born on October 12, 1918 in Springfield to Henry Carl and La Una (Hymes) Ahrens, and they preceded him death. He married Letha L. Alley on May 6, 1940 at Laurel United Methodist Church, and she preceded him in death on October 7, 2010.
He is survived by two sons, Donald (Yvonne) Ahrens of Sun City, AZ and Gary (Ellen) Ahrens of Chatham; five grandchildren, Chad (Aura) Ahrens, Nancy (Troy) Pressler, David Ahrens, Christine Rummans, and Lynn (Robert) Gerton and twelve great-grandchildren, Chase, Breann, Audrey, Brigitte, Brent, Tucker, Brayden, Camden, Griffin, Kennedy, Reagan and Faith.
Kenny was a United States Army Veteran serving in WWII. He was a lifelong resident of Springfield and had worked twenty four years at Springfield Transportation Co. driving a bus and later in the parts department. He worked for twenty years for the Caterpillar dealership Witt-Armstrong which later became Capital Machinery, retiring in 1985.
Kenny was a member of South Side Christian Church where he served as a deacon, elder and bible school teacher. He enjoyed gardening, mowing his lawn, being in the sun, playing pinochle, an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan, and especially spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Visitation: 4:00 – 7:00 pm, Tuesday, July 10, 2018 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield.
Funeral Service: 10:00 am, Wednesday, July 11, 2018 at Staab Funeral Home- Springfield with John Standard of Springfield Bible Church officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park where military honors will be conducted.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Disabled American Veterans.
