Virden, IL—
Larry V. Royer, 61, of Virden, IL, passed away Friday June 9, 2017 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Larry was born June 30, 1955 in Springfield, IL a son of Vernon and Shirley (Dameron) Royer. He was a 1973 graduate of Virden High School and farmed in the Virden area his entire life. Larry worked as a service manager for over 30 years in area auto dealerships and was a member of Cross Church in Carlinville, IL. He married Carla J. Grider April 4, 1998 in Divernon, IL.
Surviving is his wife, Carla J. Royer of Virden, IL; daughters, Stacey N. (Michael) Hart of Waggoner, IL; Michelle L. (Derrick) Streibig of Girard, IL; Micaela R. Royer and Makenzie R. Royer both of Virden, IL; mother, Shirley (James) Zelmer of Chatham, IL; sisters, Dianne (Steven) Sommer of Chatham, IL and Jane (Bill) Elliott of Scottville, IL; 8 grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Preceding in death was his father Vernon Royer.
Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday June 12, 2017 at Calvert & Ferry Funeral Home Virden, IL with funeral services at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday June 13, 2017 at the funeral home. Rev. Tim Rhodus officiating. Burial will be in Virden Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to: Larry V. Royer Benefit c/o Prairie State Bank and Trust Virden, IL. I knew Larry casually as a customer through his work at Landmark when our company would have our car serviced there. He was always a patient, smiling man of kind words with a keen sense of humor. He consistently did his job very well. My thoughts and prayers go out to his entire family. Hold tight to all those wonderful memories. Dave

To Carla and the Royer Family,
Please accept my sincere sympathies on the passing of Larry. I first met him when I was attending night law school in St. Louis between 1989 and 1994. Having purchased a new Cougar from Clausen Ford in Virden, I needed a dependable vehicle to drive between Springfield and St. Louis three to four times a week.
As service manager of the Ford dealership in Virden (Clausen's, then M&L), Larry provided excellent service for my vehicles. He was always friendly, courteous, punctual, and trustworthy. When he told me I needed something for my cars, I knew I could trust him. Thanks to Larry and the men who worked with him, I never had a serious problem during all the miles I drove during this time.
Many service managers proclaim they care about customers and their satisfaction. With many of them, it's merely talk. With Larry, he walked the walk.
I'll miss Larry's smile most of all. He made me feel at ease no matter what mood I was in.
May God bless you, your family and Larry now and forever. Godspeed and Rest in Peace Larry.
