Guller (nee Luber)

SPRINGFIELD - Laura Barbara Guller (nee Luber), 94, of Springfield, died at 12:10 p.m. on Tuesday, September 11, 2012 at St. Joseph's Home.

Laura was born on January 1, 1918, on the family farm in St. Rose, IL to Adolph and Josephine Luber. At age 6, her family moved to Highland, IL, where Laura attended St. Paul schools.

In 1936, Laura won first place in an oratorical contest in Chicago and presented St. Paul High School with its first trophy. She participated in the Highland Drum & Bugle Corp and worked for the Kenney Company. In 1938, Laura and some girlfriends took the train to New York City for the World's Fair.

On August 24, 1940, she married Walter K. Guller of Edwardsville, IL, where they maintained residence. Laura worked for twenty years for the Edwardsville Creamery and enjoyed participating in local bowling leagues and playing bridge with friends.

After the death of her husband in 1973, Laura moved to Springfield, where she worked as the dining room hostess at Famous Barr and was active in Christ the King parish. For the past seven years, Laura has resided at St. Joseph's Home in Springfield.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, David, Julius and Elmer Luber; two sisters, Mary Hess and Estelle Stoecklin; and a son-in-law, Kenneth Butler.

Laura is survived by her children, Walter D. (Jeanne) Guller of St. Louis and Barbara J. Butler of Springfield; nine grandchildren, Ken (Patty) Butler Jr. of Arlington, VA, Andrew Butler of St. Louis, MO, Daniel (Angie) Butler and Christine (Tom) Cere both of Springfield, David (Sara) Guller of St. Louis; Douglas Guller of Austin, TX, Kimberly (Joe) Koenig and Angela (Brendan) Freeman both of St. Louis, and Laura (David) Gioia of Buffalo, NY; twenty great-grandchildren; sister, Imogene Sanders of Springfield; sister-in-law, Shirley Luber of Highland; and sixteen nieces and nephews.

Visitation: Family will receive friends from 9:00 – 10:15 a.m. on Saturday, September 15, 2012 at Christ the King, 1930 Barberry Dr., Springfield.

Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 15, 2012 at Christ the King with Rev. Joseph Ring and Rev. Msgr. David S. Lantz, co-celebrants. Private family interment will be held at a later date at Calvary Cemetery in Edwardsville.
