Springfield , IL—Madelyn H. Morris Bogue, 87, of Springfield, passed away at 1:20 a.m. on Tuesday, December 4, 2018 at Lewis Memorial Christian Village.
Madelyn was born in 1931 in Springfield, IL the daughter of O. M. Hatch III and Florence (Mueller) Hatch. She married Richard A. Morris in 1953 in Springfield, IL. After Richard's death in 1998, she married James Bogue in 2004 in Crete, IL.
Madelyn graduated from Lanphier High School in 1949. She attended DePauw University in Greencastle, IN and graduated in 1953, majoring in Physical Education. She was a member of Delta Zeta sorority and worked as a high school history teacher in Dayton, Ohio from 1953 to 1955.
Madelyn was active in many organizations, often serving as an officer or on the board of directors, including: P.E.O. Chapter DC; National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Captain William Penny Chapter; The Questers, Mary Todd Lincoln Chapter #354; Academy of Lifelong Learning; Illinois Symphony Orchestra Board; volunteer usher at Sangamon Auditorium; Lanphier High School Class of '49 Reunion Committee; and as a docent at the Illinois Executive Mansion. She was a long-time member of First Presbyterian Church and later of Westminster Presbyterian Church. She assisted her husband, Dick Morris, as a gracious hostess when he led various domestic and international trips with the First National Bank Double 5 Plus Club. Madelyn was also very active at the troop level during her children's involvement in Boy Scouts and Girls Scouts, and was supportive of all her children's and grandchildren's other activities and interests. She loved animals, especially Collies, which were a part of her life since childhood. Madelyn spent most of her life as a wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker. She enjoyed being with family, sewing, various crafts, cooking, traveling, collecting Swarovski crystal, and refinishing furniture. She was also supportive of her husband, Jim, by attending his bowling leagues and Senior Olympics activities.
Madelyn is survived by her husband, Jim Bogue; children, Mark (Pamela) Morris of Buffalo Grove, IL, Joyce (David) Nuernberger of Bettendorf, IA, and David (Bethany) Morris of Plymouth, WI; grandchildren, Daniel (Amanda) Morris of Morton Grove, IL, Rebecca (Jonathan) Woolums of Verona, WI, Sarah (Brent) Gomach of Lakewood, CO, Mary (Matthew) Nelson of St Charles, IA, Rachel Morris of Plymouth, WI, and Jeanette Morris of Plymouth, WI; great-grandsons, Ethan Morris of Morton Grove, IL and Alexander Woolums of Verona, WI; her twin sister, Marilyn (Edward) Schmidt of Easton, Maryland; and one niece and two nephews.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Richard Morris; brother, Oz Hatch; and nephew, Matt Hatch.

Visitation: Family will receive friends from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, December 7, 2018 at Boardman-Smith Funeral Home, 800 S. Grand Ave. West, Springfield.
Funeral Ceremony: 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 8, 2018 at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 533 South Walnut, Springfield, with Rev. Dr. Blythe Denham Kieffer officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
