Margie E. Murphy

AUBURN - Margie E. Murphy, 88, of Auburn, passed away on Monday, June 24, 2013, at St. John's Hospice.

She was born in Dermott, Ark., on February 22, 1925, to Allen Bernard Erskine, Sr., and Bertha Jane (Willis) Erskine. She married Ted Robert Murphy on November 5, 1943, in Starke, Fla., and he preceded her in death on June 10, 1990.

She is survived by her daughter, Celia Hummel, of Springfield, two grandsons, Drew (Lori) Hummel of Conway, S.C., and Devin (Heather) Hummel of North Augusta, S.C., four great-grandchildren, Caitlyn and Kylie Hummel of Conway, S.C., and Cade and Cooper Hummel of North Augusta, N.C., two brothers, Allen (Betty) Erskine, Jr., of Texarkana, Ark., and James (Barbara) Erskine of Bentonville, Ark., three sisters, Blondell Kearns of Farmington, Mo., Bobbie (Dr. Otho) Hesterly of Little Rock, Ark., and Betty (Bill) Clark of Las Cruces, N.M., and many nieces and nephews.

Along with her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and three sisters, Inez Whatley, Iona Slankard and Patricia Erskine.

Margie retired at the age of 80 from Narmont Machinery Co. where she worked as a bookkeeper. She was a member of the Auburn Baptist Church, where she served as treasurer until her passing.

Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until time of service at noon on Friday, June 28, 2013, at Auburn Baptist Church, 316 West Adams in Auburn with Pastor Amy Bickel officiating. Burial will be in Camp Butler National Cemetery, Springfield.

Memorials may be made to St. John's Hospice or Auburn Baptist Church.

Bramley Funeral Home, Auburn, is in charge of arrangements.
