Mary E. O'Dell
WASHBURN - Mary E. O'Dell, 87, formerly of Washburn, died Saturday August 11, 2012, at the Apostolic Christian Home of Roanoke, where she had been a resident for almost 3 years.
Born September 4, 1924, in Washburn, she was the daughter of Irma (Ramsey) and Harry Tweddale and sister of John Tweddale. They and her nephew, John R. (Jack) Tweddale preceded her in death.
She married Walter O'Dell in Washburn on September 30, 1944. He died on December 30, 1995.
Surviving are a son, Dave (Nancy) O'Dell of Virden and four daughters, Kathleen Whisler (Les-deceased 2009) and Donna O'Dell (Carlyle), both of Washburn, Beth Shepherd (Roger-deceased 2002), of Peoria and Mary O'Dell-Lenard (George) of St. Louis. Her family includes 10 grandchildren, 15 great-grand-children, and 3 great-great-grandchildren. Her niece, Lynne Watkins, of Peoria, also survives.
Mrs. O'Dell taught grade school for 26 years in La Rose, Spring Bay, and Varna. She was a lifelong member of the Washburn United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the United Methodist Women, The American Legion Auxiliary, The Woodford County Home Extension, The Woodford County Historical Society, and The Woodford County Teachers' Association.
A memorial service will be led by Rev. Lindsay Church Tuesday August 14, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. at the Washburn United Methodist Church. Visitation will be one hour prior at the church. A luncheon to follow the service. Memorials may be made to the Baby Fold in Bloomington.
