Mary Viola Jarvis Spence

MOORE, SC-Mary Viola Jarvis Spence, 101, of Moore, SC, died on Thursday, February 7, 2013 at Mary Black Memorial Hospital-ER.

Mary was born December 5, 1911 in Carlinville, the daughter of the late Joseph and Agatha Pfaff Jarvis, and the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was widowed by her first husband, Elma Ray Hurt, and second husband, Clarence Spence.

Mary was an avid gardener and canner of vegetables. She was also a member of the Church of the Brethren and attended Lamb of God Lutheran Church. She was formerly employed with the Licensing Department for the State of Illinois.

She is survived by her son, William Ray (Marion) Hurt of Moore, SC; grandchildren, Bret Kenneth (Sharon) Hurt of Huntsville, AL, Darren Stewart (Teri) Hurt of St. Charles, MO, Gretchen Gayle (Brian) Smith of Birmingham, AL, and Nora Elaine Hurt of Moore, SC; nine great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by five brothers and three sisters.

Private family services were held at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
