WAVERLY - Patricia Whalen, 77, of Waverly, died Sunday, January 20, 2013, at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville. She was born August 22, 1935, in Jacksonville, the daughter of Raymond and Helen Ausmus Hayes. She married James F. Whalen on May 4, 1957, at the Church of Our Saviour in Jacksonville, and he preceded her in death on June 16, 2009.
She is survived by two sons, Jim (wife, Pat) Whalen of Waverly and Jon (wife, Holly) Whalen of Franklin, one daughter, Julie (husband, Matt) Couturiaux of Waverly; ten grandchildren, Drew, Alison, and Derek Whalen, Kaitlyn and Ryan Couturiaux, Kelsey and Kacie Whalen, and Hannah, Natalie, and Lewis Wallbaum; one sister, Mary Beth (husband, Terry) Airsman of Jacksonville, two brothers, Gary (wife, Louise) Hayes and Steve (wife, Sandy) Hayes, both of Jacksonville, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two sons, David and Timothy Whalen.
Mrs. Whalen served as City Clerk for the City of Waverly for nearly 25 years. She also worked at Waverly IGA and Neece Funeral Home and loved being able to interact with the public through her work. She and was a member of St. Sebastian Catholic Church in Waverly. She cherished her family, especially her grandchildren.
A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Thursday, January 24, 2013, at St. Sebastian Catholic Church in Waverly, with burial at Sacred Heart Cemetery near Franklin. The family will meet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Neece Funeral Home in Waverly. A prayer service will be conducted at 7 p.m. Wednesday evening.
