Harold Parkinson

CENTRALIA- Robert Harold Parkinson, age 97, of Centralia, passed away on Thursday, March 13, 2014 in Branson, Missouri.

He was born on September 11, 1916, in Cartter, IL, the son of Harris A. & Hattie (Mount) Parkinson. Harold first married Bonnie Fay (Stuber) on October 22, 1938 in St. Louis, Mo. She preceded him on August 26, 1997. Then Harold married Shirley (Vancil) Parkinson on December 2, 2000 at Central City Baptist Church in Central City, IL. She still survives in Centralia.

Mr. Parkinson is survived by his wife; 2 Sons- Edwin "Dale" Parkinson & wife Judy of Kell, Il; Danny Parkinson & wife Cheryl of Springfield, Il; 1- Grandson- Stephen Andrew Parkinson of Springfield, Il; 3 Step Grandchildren- Jimmy Leek, Jason Barrall & wife Morgan, Tiffany Agnew all of Centralia, Il; 2 Step Great Grandchildren- Hannah & Emma Barrall of Centralia, Il

She was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, infant sister, 2 brothers- Kenneth & Herbert Parkinson, Uncle- Ivan Mount

He worked for Illinois Central Railroad for over 32 years in the Bridge & Building Department as Assistant Foreman. He was lifelong area resident. He was member of Central City Baptist Church, Sunday School Superintendent, Deacon at Church, Sunday School Teacher at Church, served on many church offices, Kiwanis Club, Lifetime Member Masonic Lodge 201 AF&AM, and Meals on Wheels volunteer.

He also served in Navy during WW II. He was aboard USS Briscoe during July 1943- November 1945.

Funeral service will be held at 10:00 am on Tuesday, March 18, 2014 at Central City Baptist Church in Central City with Rev. Paul Mount officiating. Interment will follow in the Zion Grove Cemetery.

Friends may call on Monday, March 17, 2014 evening from 6-8 pm at the Irvin Funeral Home in Centralia & after 9:00 a.m. at the church on Tuesday, March 18, 2014

For those who wish, memorials may be made to the Central City Baptist Church Building Debt Fund, and will be accepted at the Irvin Funeral Home in Centralia, who is in charge of arrangements.
