Ronnie E. Hughes
ATHENS, IL - Ronnie E. Hughes, 66, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2013 at his home.
He was born Feb. 21, 1947, in Springfield, Ill., the son of Franklin W. and Evelyn L. Hughes.
He is survived by two daughters, Diane Hughes of Athens and Janet (Jason) Hughes-Condrey of Florida; his mother, Evelyn Welch-Hughes of Springfield; two brothers, Larry (Mary Lois) Hughes of Athens and Roger (Bonita) Hughes of Athens; three sisters: Stephanie (Jack) Geary of Greenview, Pamela (Bob) Rector of Athens, and Twyla (Mike) Baker of Springfield.
Ronnie was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Rose (Heslin) Hughes in 2010; a sister, Sandra K. Mangiaforte in 2011; one brother, Mark W. Hughes in 1993; and his father, Franklin W. Hughes in 1991.
He graduated from Athens High School in 1965. Upon graduation, he joined the US Navy and served his country for four years aboard the USS Wasp CVS-18.
Ronnie married Mary Rose in Woodside, New York on July 26, 1969, and resided there for 40 years.
He was the Chief Engineer for several prominent buildings in NYC, most recently the Seagram Building.
Ronnie was dedicated to his family, loved by many and will be dearly missed by all.
Visitation will be Sunday, Sept. 8, 2013, from 2-5 p.m. at Mott & Henning Funeral Home, 206 N. Main St., Athens, IL. Burial will be at Calverton National Cemetery in Calverton, N.Y.
