Shary Elizabeth Alwardt

SPRINGFIELD - Shary Elizabeth Alwardt, 23, of Springfield, died at 2:27 PM, Friday, November 16, 2012 at St. John's Hospital.

Shary was born March 4, 1989 in Springfield, the daughter of Morris (Moe) Alwardt and Susan Selby Defrates.

Shary was a graduate of Lutheran High School, and attended Lincoln Land Community College. She was a heart and lung transplant survivor and addressed the Illinois State Senate regarding organ donation. Shary enjoyed serving on the Mission Outreach Trivia Committee, cheering on the Cubs, baking, going to concerts, traveling, and mostly spending time with family and friends. Shary's warm smile and kind heart will be deeply missed.

She is preceded in death by her grandparents, Herman and Vera Alwardt.

She is survived by her parents, Moe Alwardt and Susan Defrates, both of Springfield; one sister, Sara Alwardt of Springfield; grandparents, Renate Selby of Springfield and Melvin (wife, Mary) Selby of Decatur, AL; aunts and uncles, Cindy (husband, Joe) Stelte of Springfield, Carol (husband, Bill) Graham of Auburn, Melody (husband, Duane) Jablonski of St. Louis, MO, Beverly Combs of Marshall, and Bette Kelley of Houston, TX; and numerous cousins.

Cremation was accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center prior to ceremonies.

Memorial Gathering: Family will receive friends from 5:00-8:00 PM on Tuesday, November 20, 2012, at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield.

Memorial Ceremony: 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, November 21, 2012, at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, with Celebrant Judy Woerner officiating.
