Shirley Grace Hoelzer

SPRINGFIELD, IL - Shirley Grace Hoelzer, 91, died Saturday, June 15, 2013, at 3:48 p.m. at River Birch Senior Living.

Shirley was born Dec. 14, 1921, in Brooklyn, N.Y., the daughter of David Edward and Florence Johnson Reichenbacher. She married Robert F. Hoelzer on Sept. 4, 1949, in Manhasset, N.Y.; he preceded her in death.

Shirley was a graduate of Roslyn High School in New York. She was a former president of the North Strathmore Women's Club and the Manhasset Community Club. She served for 25 years as a Republican Precinct Committeewoman in Manhasset, N.Y. She was an avid bridge player.

She was also preceded in death by her parents and twin sister, Norma Reichenbacher.

She is survived by her son, David R. (wife, Karen L.) Hoelzer of Springfield; three grandchildren: John D. (wife, Jeanette) Hoelzer of Laredo, Texas, William R. (wife, Emily) Hoelzer of Portland, Ore., and Kathryn A. (husband, Michael) McEvilly of Houston, Texas; one great-grandchild, Oliver John Hoelzer; and sister, Ruth Faber of Wallingford, Conn.

Cremation was accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center prior to ceremonies.

Memorial Gathering: Family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday, June 18, 2013, at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield.

Memorial Ceremony: 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 19, 2013, at Laurel United Methodist Church, 631 S. Grand Ave. West, Springfield with Rev. Jerry King officiating.

Memorials may be made to the Springfield Parks Foundation for use at the Stuart Dog Park, 2500 S. 11th St. Springfield, IL 62703.
