Thomas Ira "Tommy" Folkes

SAN JOSE, IL - Thomas Ira "Tommy" Folkes, 96, of San Jose, passed away at 5:00 a.m., Monday, May 13, 2013, at Mason City Area Nursing Home.

He was born September 23, 1916, in Lincoln to Ira Thomas and Blanche Cecelia Mitchell Folkes. He married Joan Lorene Ryan on August 21, 1954, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Delavan, and she passed away January 24, 2006.

Surviving are one son, Timothy (Cindy) Folkes of San Jose; two daughters, Molly (Dennis) Godar of Rochester and Angela Folkes of St. Louis MO; six grandchildren: Andy (Haylie) Folkes of Mason City, Nate (Casey) Folkes of Havana, Hannah (Sean) Walters of Mary Esther, FL, James (Shanda) Godar of San Antonio, TX, Clay Godar of Rochester, and Ryan Godar of Valdosta, GA; six great-grandchildren: Brendin, Brody and Isabelle Folkes of Mason City, Hannah Folkes of Havana, and Paisley and Ira Godar of San Antonio, TX; and two brothers, Dean (Gitana) Folkes of Sarasota, FL and Welby (Shirley) Folkes of Elkhart.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Claude Folkes; two sisters, Eleanor Folkes and Mary Miller; and one granddaughter, Mallory Luann Folkes.

He graduated from Elkhart High School.

Tommy farmed in the Elkhart area until 1948 then moved to San Jose and farmed in the San Jose and Emden area until 2010. He also worked at Watson International in Delavan during the winters for several years.

He was a well-known farmer in the area and made daily stops at all the coffee shops in Logan, Mason, and Tazewell counties.

He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Delavan, former member of San Jose Lion's Club, and a former board member of San Jose Co-op Elevator.

A funeral mass will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, May 18, 2013, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Delavan. Rev. R. Dean Probst will officiate. Visitation will be from 5-7:30 p.m., Friday at Davis Mortuary in Delavan, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Delavan.
