SPRINGFIELD, IL - Walter J. Scott, 67, passed away at 1:05 a.m., Monday, Feb. 17, 2014, at his home in Springfield surrounded by his loving family.

Walt was born Nov. 11, 1946, in Springfield, the son of James B. and Maxine Peine Scott.

Walt attended Springfield High School. He purchased his father's business and had been the proud, hardworking owner of W.J. Scott Company since 1979. He was liked and well respected in the petroleum business. He enjoyed his family and spending time traveling in his RV. His family and friends will miss his keen sense of humor and wit. He truly was the world's most perfect husband and best friend.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Walt is survived by his wife, Laura of Springfield; his two sons, Matt (wife, Cindy) Scott and Jim Scott (companion, Cathy Madaus), both of Springfield; two stepsons, George (wife, Lori) Eames and Damion (wife, Ashley) Eames both of Springfield; 10 grandchildren: Ellie, Zach, Tyler, Grant, Madi, Jordan, Jake, Jenna, Gavin and Brody; two siblings, Gale Scott (companion, Bill Harding) of Springfield and Don (wife, Susan) Scott of Sharpsburg, Ga.; several cousins; and his faithful companion, Bella, who never left his side.

Cremation will be accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center prior to ceremonies.

Memorial Gathering: Family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 20, 2014, at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. The family requests casual attire be worn to the gathering.
