Jessie Clark Schirding

SPRINGFIELD, IL - Jessie Clark Schirding, 94, died on Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2014. Formerly of Petersburg, Jessie had lived at River Birch Senior Living in Springfield since October of 2011. Jessie was born May 26, 1919, in Omaha, Neb., to W. Dale and Ethel Clark. She attended MacMurray College in Jacksonville where she met her future husband, John Schirding. They were married in 1941 and made Petersburg their home. John died in 1996.

Jessie was an active member of the community, serving in various organizations including the PORTA School Board, Menard County Rescue Squad Auxiliary, Menard County Health Board, PORTA Foundation Board and volunteering at New Salem State Historic Site. She was a member of the Petersburg United Methodist Church. In 2007, Jessie was named Petersburg First Citizen. She also served as a MacMurray College Trustee and Alumni Board member and was on the board of the Area Agency on Aging for the Lincoln Land Area. She owned and operated "Serendipity Prints" for many years. Jessie was also a supporter of her community in many less visible, but no less important, ways.

Jessie is survived by her children, Cathie (Chris) Boland, Harry (Sharon) Schirding, Emily Schirding, and Hal (Jane) Schirding; grandchildren, Matt Boland, Rachel Boland, Emilie (Pat) Bright, Janelle (Chris) Yungeberg, Jeff (Jen) Hazelwood, Laurie (Brett) Dollens, Beth (Randy) Gay, Joel Schirding, Christopher (Jennifer) Schirding, Daniel Schirding, and Nathan Schirding; 11 great- grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.

Visitation will be held from 4–7 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 16, 2014, at Hurley Funeral Home in Petersburg with the Rev. Ken Gennicks officiating. There will be an additional visitation for an hour prior to the funeral which will be held on Monday, Feb. 17, 2014, at 11 a.m., also at Hurley Funeral Home.
