SPRINGFIELD, IL - Wymond Mason, 86, died Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2014, at his home in Springfield.
Wymond was born July 27, 1927, the son of Lester and Sarah Irene Stubbs Mason. He married Jacqueline Hildebrand on July 10, 1948 in Lincoln.
Wymond played basketball and graduated from Lanphier High School. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy. Together with a partner, they founded Evans-Mason Inc. in 1958, a masonry contracting firm. They managed that company until his retirement. He and a partner were instrumental in developing and founding Atlas Concrete Company. Wymond enjoyed fishing and was a woodcarver and woodworker who enjoyed collecting mouse traps.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Marilyn Walters.
He is survived by his wife, Jacqueline Mason of Springfield; two sons, Lester (wife, Pam) Mason of Greenview and Michael (wife, Peggy) Mason of Riverton; four daughters: Rebecca Weems of Springfield, Deborah (husband, Grant) Laird of Puryear, Tenn., Wendeline (husband, Kent) Schluter of Chatham, and Jennifer (husband, Kevin) Martin of Springfield; 15 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Visitation: Family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2014, at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield.
Funeral Ceremony: 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2014, at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
