Pokorney

SPRINGFIELD, IL - Robert L. Pokorney, 87, passed away at 8:10 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2014, at Joliet Area Community Hospice.

Robert was born July 7, 1926, in Richland Center, Wisc., the son of Leo G. and Stella K. Lunenschloss Pokorney. He married Katherine F. Miesch on June 2, 1958, at St. Peter's Basilica, Vatican City, Italy. She preceded him in death in 2011.

Robert proudly served his country in the United States Army during WWII and the Korean War. He graduated from Marquette University Dental School in 1952 and earned his Masters of Public Health from the University of MN in 1967. He was a member of Christ the King Parish.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Mitchell Robert Fajman, and brother, Charles F. Pokorney.

He is survived by his two sons, Robert J. Pokorney of Jacksonville and Richard C. Pokorney of Springfield; three daughters, Margaret Pokorney of Lake Zurich, Ill., Mary Susan (husband, Thomas) Fajman of Channahon, Ill., and Mary Katherine (husband, Gary) Kobus of Hinsdale; five grandchildren; and two nieces and three nephews.

Visitation and Funeral Mass: Family will receive friends from 8:30 until the time of the Mass at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 21, 2014, at Christ the King Parish, 1930 Barberry, Springfield, with Rev. Joseph Ring, celebrant.

Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery with military honors provided by Inter-Veterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County.
