Debra WEINANT Obituary

Debra Kay Weinant

DAWSON, IL - Debra Kay Weinant, 47, died at 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, February 18, 2014, at her home.

Debra was born February 28, 1966, in Decatur, the daughter of Russell F. and Carolyn S. Matherly Barrett. She married John Eric Weinant on June 12, 2008, in Jacksonville.

Debra worked for the State of Illinois Department of Corrections in Springfield as a computer programmer for over 10 years. She had previously worked for Department of Corrections in Decatur. Debra was very proud of putting herself through college while raising her children. She also worked to get Step-Family Day to be observed as a holiday in Illinois. Debra was a loving and caring woman who loved singing, composing music and playing music, and most of all enjoyed spending time with her family.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents and one uncle.

She is survived by her husband, John Weinant of Dawson; three children, Brandy Stiles of Dawson, Cassidy Gordon of Assumption, and Andrew Gordon of Dawson; one grandchild, Serenity Branham of Dawson; parents, Carolyn and Fred Barrett of Texas; three siblings, Keitha (husband, Shaun) Gage of Texas, Sherry Honkala of Springfield, and Chris Barrett (companion, Phyllis) of Latham; mother-in-law, Mary Weinant; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Cremation will be accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center following ceremonies.

Visitation: Family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. on Friday, February 21, 2014, at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield.

Funeral Ceremony: 1 p.m. on Saturday, February 22, 2014, at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, with Celebrant Judy Woerner officiating.
