SHERMAN, IL - Adolph G. "Gaulde" DiGirolamo, 88, died Sunday, Feb. 16, 2014, at Villa Health Care East in Sherman.
He was born April 17, 1925, in Springfield, Ill., to Pietro and Concetta Antonacci DiGirolamo. He married Phyllis L. DeWolfe on Oct. 20, 1951, and she preceded him in death on May 6, 1994.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Diamond and Ernest; and a sister, Della Antonacci.
He is survived by niece, Michele (Dave) Hurrelbrink of Springfield. He is also survived by several other nieces, nephews, brother-in-law and sisters-in-law of the DiGirolamo, Antonacci and DeWolfe families.
Adolph was a resident of Springfield all his life. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He was an Assistant Manager for Starr Brothers for 32 years. He was a member of St. Frances Cabrini Church and a member of the DAV.
Visitation: 5-7 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 23, 2014, at Staab Funeral Home with a prayer service at 5 p.m.
Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m., Monday, Feb. 24, 2014, at St. Frances Cabrini Church, the Rev. Brian Alford officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery where military honors will be conducted by Inter-Veterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County and the U.S. Navy.
The family would like to thank the nurses at the Villa and also his hospice nurses for the wonderful care given to him.
