Albert L. "Porkey" Grimmett
WAVERLY, IL - Albert L. "Porkey" Grimmett, 74, died early Saturday, Feb. 22, 2014, at his residence.
He was born April 17, 1939, in Palmyra, Ill., son of the late Kenneth H. and Pearl R. Wiser Grimmett.
He married Norma J. Farley on Aug. 7, 1960, in Palmyra, Ill., and she survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Tracy Shafer (Neil), of Berlin, Ill., and Terry Grimmett Gwillim, of Chatham, Ill.; one son, Jeff Grimmett (Laura), of Waverly, Ill.; eleven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one sister, Beverly Holloway, of Girard, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Coy Grimmett.
He attended Northwestern High School in Palmyra, Ill., and was a self-employed truck driver for many years retiring in 2013. He was a member of the Midwest Truckers Association. He loved NASCAR racing and enjoyed watching all sports, especially watching his grandchildren. Porkey never met a stranger and was a friend to all.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2014, at Neece-Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Waverly, Ill. Burial will be in Waverly East Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m., Tuesday, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Waverly Rescue Squad, c/o Neece-Airsman-Hires Funeral Home, 349 Tanner, Waverly, IL 62692.
