VIRDEN – Jacqueline L. Roughley 91 of Springfield, IL formerly of Virden, IL was called home by our Heavenly Father on Wednesday, March 12, 2014 at Memorial Hospital in Springfield, IL.

Jacqueline was born Aug. 12, 1922 in Alleghany, VA a daughter to William S. and Nellie (Pfadt) Smith. She married Arthur Gordon "Red" Roughley Nov. 28, 1942 in White Sulphur Springs, WV.

Jacqueline was a Valedictorian of the 1939 graduating class of Dunlop High School. She continued her education at Appalachian State Teachers College in Boone, NC where she attained the Dean's list. Transferring to St. Mary's Hospital in Huntington, WV, where she was accepted into the Nurses training program. While in the program Jacqueline was awarded the honor of having the highest average of any student nurse.

She was a Charter Member of the Macoupin County Daughter's of American Revolution (DAR), Deacon at the Virden First Presbyterian Church in Virden, IL, Member and Past Worthy Matron of the Order of The Eastern Star, (OES) chapter 117, Girard and Virden Women's Club.

Surviving Jacqueline is her son, Norman P. (Beth A.) Roughley of Springfield, IL a grandson Joshua C. (Brittney D.) Roughley of Champaign, IL, and several nieces and nephews. Preceding in death was her husband Arthur Gordon "Red" Roughley, father and mother, and brothers, Francis W., Maynard D. and William A. Smith Sr..

Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday March 17, 2014 at Calvert & Ferry funeral home, Virden, IL with funeral services at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday Match 18, 2014 at the funeral home. Rev.
