Larry E. Hopkins
ATHENS, IL - Larry E. Hopkins, 65, passed away Sunday, March 23, 2014, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO.
He was born Nov. 14, 1948, in Springfield, IL, the son of the late Edward and Mabel (Reamer) Hopkins. He married Shirley Bounds on Sept. 13, 1969, in Springfield.
Mr. Hopkins served in the U.S. Army. He worked as a consultant for Kaskaskia Engineering in Belleville, IL. Previously he had worked for and retired from the State of Illinois Dept. of Transportation. He enjoyed woodworking as a hobby.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley; two sons, Russ (wife, Renee) Hopkins of Chatham, IL, and their two daughters, Alyssa and Addison, and Michael Allen Hopkins of Chatham and his two daughters, Kaitlin and Cassidy; a brother, Edward Russell (wife, Patricia) Hopkins; and two sisters, Helen Louise Chappell and Dorothy "Dottie" Hopkins-Rehan. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Jeremiah Hopkins, and a sister, Verna Baker.
Services are under the direction of Bisch and Son Funeral Home, 505 E. Allen, Springfield, IL, where visitation will be held on Thursday, March 27, 2014 from 4-7 p.m. Additional visitation will be on Friday, March 28, 2014 from 9 a.m. until time of the funeral service at 10 am, the Rev. Craig Sweet officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Springfield with military honors provided by the U.S. Army and the Inter-Veterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County.
