Therese "Teri" Graham Pauly
SPRINGFIELD, IL - Therese "Teri" Graham Pauly, of Springfield and St. Augustine, Fla., passed away Wednesday, March 19, 2014, under hospice care at Memorial Medical Center.
Teri was born Anne Marie Wallace on Aug. 24, 1949, the only child of Marie Lorette Wallace of Detroit, Mich. Her birth father was Michael McCarthy of Windsor, Canada. She was adopted Nov. 11, 1949, and raised in the home of Dr. James E. and Marian Graham until her 18th birthday.
Teri met her loving life partner, Les Pauly, in 1969. They were married in Springfield in 1974. Both are members of the Chatham United Methodist Church and memorial contributions may be made to the church to further its mission.
She is survived by her husband as well as her family of choice: Angela (Paul) Provart of Chatham; sons, Evan, Ian and Dylan; Carol (James) Jones of Chatham; son, Chris of Virginia, Ill.; Erin (Tracy) Benbrook of Chatham, and their children, Connor, Christian and Sophia Benbrook; Bernadette Rossiter of Moapa, Nev.; Robert (Thomi) Karlek of Canton, Mich.; and Richard (Cletia) Bowen of Springfield.
Teri was preceded in death by her birth parents and adoptive parents.
Teri graduated from Blessed Sacrament Grade School and Ursuline Academy in Springfield. Later she earned an associate's degree in accounting from Lincoln Land Community College, and then a bachelor's degree in management and master's degree in organizational communication at the then-Sangamon State University. She was honored with serving as a Class Marshal for the masters-level graduation ceremony.
Early in her career, Teri was a writer for local radio stations, Springfield and Chicago magazines, as well as many years writing and editing the newsletter for Contact Ministries of Springfield. She also taught business-related courses at LLCC and for the American Banking Association.
Starting in 1982, Pauly launched an entrepreneurial business involving career guidance counseling, which evolved in 1988 to a career development consulting practice geared to the financial industry.
Inspired by serving as a member of an LLCC presidential search committee, Teri established Pauly Group, Inc., an independent academic search consulting firm solely focused on the nation's community and technical colleges. Since 1990, PGI has been setting the standard for excellence in academic search consulting. Pauly was recognized as a leader in her field, and frequently was a presenter at conventions, conferences and leadership workshops held by the major associations of two-year public colleges.
Pauly retired in 2011, with the successful transfer of PGI to President Angela D. Provart, Teri's protégé, business partner, and friend.
Cremation rites were entrusted to Cremation Services of Central Illinois in Chatham.
