Fay Ellen Clark STANBACK Obituary

Fay Ellen

Our beloved Fay Ellen Clark was born March 21, 1921, to Ernest Clark and Viola West Clark in Stephens, Mo. At a young age, she accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior and became a member of Union Baptist Church.

Fay was a 1941 graduate of Feitshans High School in Springfield, Ill. She married William Jewel Stanback on Nov. 18, 1941. They were married for 46 years, and their family grew to include two sons and five daughters.

Being a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt was always central in her life.

Fay was an exceptional homemaker, and she devoted her skills and gifts to the nurturing and care of her family. As a young mother, she was actively involved in the PTA at her children's schools. She enjoyed sewing, vegetable and flower gardening, canning homegrown vegetables, preserving fruits, baking desserts, and preparing delicious meals.

Most dear to her heart was being with family and friends. Through the years, she enthusiastically traveled many miles to attend family reunions and other special family events. She also enjoyed shopping, and most of her shopping was focused on gift-giving. Many family members were blessed by her loving, thoughtful, and generous spirit. Fay's benevolence was also expressed through her gifts to many charitable organizations.

Fay passed away peacefully at Memorial Medical Center on Thursday, April 24, 2014. What a legacy she left with her guidance, example, and wisdom.

Preceding Fay in death were her parents; husband, William Jewel Stanback, Sr.; daughter, Marcia Kim Stanback; grandson, Adam Quincy Davis; sisters, Wilma Marie Wade and Anna Lee Clark; and brother, Clifton Christopher Clark.

She leaves to cherish her memories: two sons, William Stanback, Jr. of University City, Mo.; and Von Stanback of Springfield, Ill.; four daughters: LaJewel (Rev. Dr. Warren H.) Davis of Pensacola, Fla., Marchal Stewart of Springfield, Ill., Tamera (Desmond) Nanton of University City, Mo., and Maria Johnson of Springfield, Ill.; five grandchildren: Valencia Davis of Tallahassee, Fla., Lamar Johnson, Tiara Johnson, and Kemi Fayemi all of Springfield, Ill., and Brian Nanton of University City, Mo.; six great-grandchildren: Kiya Johnson, Elijah Johnson, Amiyah Johnson, Nevaeh Johnson, Naomi Scott, and Irie Fay Johnson, all of Springfield, Ill.; nephew, Lloyd (Carrie) Wade of St. Louis, Mo.; nieces, Myra Wade Williams and Constance (William) McGee of Springfield, Ill.; and numerous great-nephews and nieces, cousins, and friends.

Visitation and services will be held Friday, May 2, 2014, at Walker Funeral Service and Chapel, 2300 E. Cook St., Springfield, IL. Visitation will be held from 9:30-11:00 a.m. Services will follow at 11:00 a.m., the Rev. Dr. Warren H. Davis officiating. Interment will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery.

We cherish the memories of our beloved Fay and are thankful to God for the blessing of having her in our lives. We are comforted by the words of her favorite scripture, the 23rd Psalm: "Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever." Psalm 23:6.
