SPRINGFIELD, IL - Alice M. Watters, 96, formerly of Rochester, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 30, 2014, at St. John's Hospice.

She was a devoted Catholic, wife and mother. She was born April 2, 1918, in Racine, Wisc., the daughter of Michael F. Roraff and Eleanor E. (Hanifl) Roraff.

Alice graduated from Trinity High School in LaCrosse, Wisc., in 1937. Later she enrolled in the St. Francis School of Nursing in LaCrosse and graduated as a registered nurse in Feb. 1945.

Alice has three sons from her marriage to Donald S. Pittman. Alice and Donald were married on Aug. 1, 1945, in Galeysville, Wisc. He preceded her in death in July 1951. On Thanksgiving Day, 1959, Alice married John (Bill) Watters at St. Anne's Church in Long Grove, Iowa. He also preceded her in death in Dec. 1978.

Alice was an Operating Room nurse for many years at DeWitt Community Hospital and manager of West Wing Place nursing facility, both in DeWitt, Iowa. She retired in 1984 and moved to Rochester, Ill.

Her life was one of service to others and she will always be remembered by her family and friends as a person of faith in God, and in family. Though this life has ended, her eternal reward has just begun.

Honoring her memory and missing her are her sons, Don (wife, Gilberte) Pittman of Roscoe, Ill., David Pittman of Bennington, Vt., and Dan (wife, Judy) Pittman of Springfield as well as grandchildren, Bryan, Michael, Mariah, and Nicholas Pittman; and sister, Irene Bell of Beaver Dam, Wisc. She leaves behind her close friend and honorary daughter, Beth Yong.

The family thanks the kind and caring nurses and aides at Heritage Health and St. John's Hospice.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 3, 2014, until the time of the Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. at Church of St. Jude in Rochester with Reverend R. Dean Probst officiating. A private burial will be held at a later date at St. Anne's Church in Iowa.
