Regina Ljudmila (Malnar) Lazar

SPRINGFIELD, IL - Regina Ljudmila (Malnar) Lazar departed this life on Wednesday, May 7, 2014, at St. John's Hospice in Springfield, Ill.

She was born Sept. 27, 1925, in Springfield to John and Maria Malnar. They preceded her in death. She married Frank C. Lazar on May 22, 1945, and he preceded her in death in 1969.

A daughter, Regina Karen, son, Mark R., and sister, Otilia Huddleston, also preceded her in death.

She is survived by her son, Donald (Sherrill) Lazar; daughter, Christina (Mike) Walton; grandchildren: Bill (Pam) Lazar, Donna Lazar, Jamie (Marcy) Lazar, Daniel Lazar, Nick (Holly) Walton and Ashley Walton; and step-grandchildren: Sheri (Alan) Cordrey, Paula Pringle and Ronda Pickinpaugh. In addition to her children and grandchildren, she is survived by 16 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Regina was a member of St. Joseph's Church. In her earlier days, during the 40's, she worked at Sangamo Electric Company and was a waitress at Maldaner's Restaurant. She was a cashier with the City of Springfield (CWLP) and retired from the city in 1993. After her retirement, she went to work in the gift shop at the Illinois State Museum.

She enjoyed being with her family, going to casinos, traveling, reading the Chicago Tribune, and doing her puzzles. Since she never drove, she enjoyed riding the bus all over Springfield.

Memorial contributions may be made to: American Legion Post 32, 1120 Sangamon Ave., Springfield, IL 62702 in honor of all American veterans, but most especially her husband, Frank's, service in WWII.

Cremation will be accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center following ceremonies.

Funeral Ceremony and Memorial Gathering: 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 10, 2014, at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield, the Rev. Steven Janoski officiating. A memorial gathering will follow from 2:00 – 4:30 p.m.

A private family burial will be held at Calvary Cemetery at a later date.
