Thomas Logan Meyer
Thomas Logan Meyer, 87, of Beardstown, died Wednesday, May 14, 2014 at Heritage Health in Beardstown.
He was born January 2, 1927 in Beardstown, the son of Logan and Pearl Wagner Meyer. He married Dorothy Weber on October 3, 1952 in Peoria and she preceded him in death on May 4, 2006.
He is survived by five children, Marsha (Jim) Dent of Chapin, SC, Lori (Gary) Elliott of Superior, WI, John (Yvette) Meyer of Waukegan, Julie (David) Haas of Frankfort and Timothy (Jacqueline) Meyer of Beardstown; fourteen grandchildren; one great-grandson; and one sister, Joan Meyer Ross of Lanse, MI. He was preceded in death by his parents and one nephew, Tom Macke.
Mr. Meyer was a graduate of Beardstown High School, before enlisting in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WW II attaining the rank of Sergeant with the Squadron B-2 3505th AAF Base Unit. After serving his country he attended the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana then went back home to join the family business, where he owned and operated Meyer Red Fox in Beardstown for 54 years working alongside his grandfather, father and eventually his children. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Beardstown, 69 year member of the American Legion and member of Elks Lodge 1007 since 1952. Mr. Meyer was a charter member of Beardstown Jr. Chamber of Commerce and served as President, District Representative and state vice-president of his district. He was a charter member of the Beardstown Lions Club where he was active as President, Treasurer, and served on the Board of Directors. Mr. Meyer was a Cass County Republican Precinct Committeeman for 38 years, served as President of the PTA for both Brick and Gard Schools in Beardstown and was a member of DANK (Deutsche Amerikanischer National Kongress).
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 PM Sunday, May 18, 2014 at Sager Funeral Home in Beardstown with burial at Beardstown City Cemetery. Family will meet friends from 1 PM Sunday until time of services. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Cass-Schuyler Hospice, www.airsman-hires.com. Sager Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
