Mary Elizabeth BEDINGHAUS Obituary

Mary Elizabeth "Liz" Bedinghaus

WAGGONER, IL - Mary Elizabeth "Liz" Bedinghaus, 82, of Waggoner, passed away Monday morning, May 19, 2014, at Pleasant Hill Village in Girard, Ill.

Mary was born Nov. 5, 1931, to Jesse and Mary (Fyffe) Dunkel at home in Farmersville. On July 26, 1952, she married John L. "Jack" Bedinghaus at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Farmersville and he preceded her in death on Dec. 19, 1997.

Mary graduated from St. John's School of Nursing in Springfield as a Registered Nurse and then began her formal nursing career in Sacramento, Calif. As their family grew, Mary refocused her caregiving energies on her family becoming a loving homemaker and devoting her time to her family and the farm. Many will remember her fine cooking skills as they lent a hand on the Bedinghaus Farm and bailing excursions; cutting a rug on the dance floor with Jack at the old KC dances; playing cards and croquet with family and neighbors; and always lending a smiling helping hand where needed. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, cleaning, and playing piano and singing with her mother, sisters and daughters.

Mary was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Farmersville, was a member of the Alter Society, Home Extension and was a Past President of the American Legion Auxiliary. Mary's countless demonstrations of giving to the needs of others before herself is what she will best be remembered for.

Mary is survived by five daughters: Donna (Tony) Krager of Waggoner, Jean M. Keslin of Munster, Ind., Gail A. Hartman of Carlinville, Ill., Kathy (Bill) Broaddus of St. Louis, Mo., and Amy (Brian) Byers of Waggoner; son, Gary L. Bedinghaus of Carrollton; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; sister, Lorrie Farrington of Springfield, Ill., as well as several nieces and nephews.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband; parents; brother, Donald Dunkel; sisters, Virginia Mackey and Phyllis Webb; and a granddaughter, Rachel Broaddus.

Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday, May 22, 2014, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Farmersville.

Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 23, 2014, at the church in Farmersville with the Rev. Jerry Bunse officiating.

Burial will follow at St. Martin Cemetery in Farmersville.

Memorials are suggested to the Mt. Gilead Shelter Care Home in Carrollton, Ill.
