Thomas C. Morris
SPRINGFIELD, IL - Thomas C. Morris, 94, died at 6:20 p.m. on Saturday, May 24, 2014, at St. John's Hospice.
Thomas was born March 4, 1920, in Springfield, the son of Thomas F. and Helen Bridget Casey Morris.
Thomas graduated from St. Agnes Grade School and Cathedral Boys High School, and he attended Springfield Junior College. He was employed as a Federal Internal Revenue Agent until his retirement in 1977, after 35 years of service. While employed with the Internal Revenue Service, he was awarded the Albert Gallatin and Special Act Awards in recognition of his professional accomplishments.
Thomas was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church, the National Association of Retired Federal Employees, the Catholic League, Pious Union of St. Joseph, Holy Name Society, The Catholic Extension Society, Missionary Association of Mary Immaculate, National Pro-Life, and Alliance Legionnaires of Christ. For over 20 years he worked in the St. Agnes School cafeteria as a lunch room volunteer. He enjoyed spending time with family and never missed a music program of his nieces and nephew. He enjoyed bowling, gardening, was an avid Cubs fan and loved his Irish heritage.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers: James, Rev. John, Rev. Robert, and Richard Morris; sister, Helen Morris; and sister-in-law, Virginia Morris.
He is survived by his niece, Sheila (husband, Michael) Noonan of Springfield; nephew, James Morris of Springfield; great-nephews, Scott Noonan of Los Angeles, Calif., and Tim and Dan Morris, both of Springfield; great-nieces, Laura (husband, Shaun) Tonstad and Julie (husband, Travis) McCoy, both of Springfield; two great-great-nieces; and one great-great-nephew.
Visitation: Family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. on Wednesday, May 28, 2014, at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Visitation will begin with a prayer service at 5 p.m.
Funeral Mass: 10 a.m. on Thursday, May 29, 2014, at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 245 N. Amos Ave., Springfield, with the Rev. Robert Jallas, celebrant.
Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Springfield.
