Porter Garrison Jr.

MASON CITY, IL - Porter Garrison Jr., 90, passed away at 7:18 p.m. on Saturday, June 7, 2014, at his home in Mason City.

He was born May 26, 1924, the son of William Porter and Blanche (Perkins) Garrison in Pennsylvania Township of Mason County, Ill. He married Betty Lee Sink on July 4, 1947, in Havana, Ill. She survives.

Porter is also survived by two sons, Rodney (Lynn) Garrison and Dale A. Garrison both of Mason City, Ill.; one sister, Annis Tracy of Mason City; five grandchildren: Tyler J. (Lenore) Garrison of Tremont, Ill., Jesse A. Garrison (fiancée, Olivia Petersen) of Ames, Iowa, Wade A. (Stefani) Garrison of Divernon, Ill., Joshua D. Garrison and Rachel E. Garrison both of Dallas, Texas; three great-grandsons: Lucas, Logan and Locke Garrison; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Joyce Singley and Helen McCreery, and one brother, Thomas Garrison.

Porter was a farmer for many years, a past board member of the Farmer's Grain & Coal Co., school bus driver, member of the Dirty Dozen Card Club, salesman of Dekalb brand seeds, member of the Over 55 Club, and the last surviving member of the Teheran Tadpoles Baseball Team. He loved playing cards, square dancing, and baseball.

A visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 11 at Hurley Funeral Home in Mason City, Ill. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 12 at Mason City Cemetery in Mason City. Nash Shawgo will officiate.

Memorials may be made to: Pets Without Parents Teheran affiliate or an organization of the donor's choice.
