CARLINVILLE, IL - Tony Ray Filippone, 68, of Carlinville, Ill., passed into eternal life peacefully on June 11, 2014, at Heritage Health Nursing Home surrounded by family, thus ending his battle with pancreatic cancer.
He was born May 23, 1946, in California, the son of Pete and Anna (Axley) Filippone.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Tony was a graduate of Carlinville High School and Lewis & Clark Community College. He served his country in the Army from 1966-69 in Vietnam and Germany. He worked 12 years at Fiat Allis and many years at Boeing Company, retiring Dec. 31, 2013. Tony lived in Godfrey for 23 years before moving back to Carlinville in March of this year to retire, travel, and be near his family. He was a member of the Bethlehem Tabernacle Church of Greenfield where he served as a trustee and Sunday School teacher for 40 years.
A loving son, brother, uncle, and friend, Tony is survived by his mother, Anna Filippone Moore; sisters: Sherri Hallbauer (husband, Carl), Carol Link (husband, Jeff), and Ellen Eldred (husband, John), of Carlinville; brother, Gregory Filippone (partner, Mike Reynolds) of Houston, Texas; and several nieces and nephews.
Services to celebrate Tony's life will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 21, with visitation beginning one hour prior, at Bethlehem Tabernacle Church in Greenfield, with the Rev. Jonathan Mohr officiating. Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Friday, June 20 at Heinz Funeral Home in Carlinville. Burial will be at Moore Cemetery with military rites.
