Hee Jung (Ahn) OH Obituary

Hee Jung Oh

SPRINGFIELD, IL - Hee Jung Oh (Ahn), 61, of Springfield, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday, June 25, 2014, at Memorial Medical Center in the company of her loved ones.

She was born July 18, 1952, in Incheon, South Korea to Hyung Mook Ahn and Myung Soon Kang. She married her husband, Chung In Oh, in Incheon, South Korea on April 6, 1976. She immigrated to the United States on Sept. 6, 1976, and became a proud naturalized citizen of the USA on Sept. 24, 1982.

Hee Jung is survived by her devoted and loving husband, Chung In Oh of Springfield. She was the mother of her two loving sons, Steve (Krystal Sriner) Oh of Springfield and Anthony (Meghan Cochran) Oh of Chatham. She was the proud grandmother of four beautiful grandchildren: Joshua, Carter, Emily, and Mason Oh. Hee Jung also had two remaining brothers and their respective families: SinOk Ahn and KwangOk Ahn both of Incheon, South Korea. She was blessed with five nieces and nephews who reside in South Korea, five nieces and nephews who reside in the United States, and six great-nieces and nephews who also reside in the United States.

She was preceded in death by both of her parents and her one sister, Hee Ja Ahn.

Speaking very little English, Hee Jung arrived in Springfield in 1976 and with her husband helped to raise their two sons. In 1989, her husband opened Oh's Golden Dragon, in which she worked as a hostess for over 24 years. She was always ready with a genuine smile and had an uncanny memory of her customer's typical orders. She treated every customer as if they were family and loved receiving pictures and updates from the restaurant customers.

She became an active member of the Korean United Presbyterian Church in 1976. She served as a Deacon, alongside her husband who served as an elder. She also served as the chairperson for the Women's Club for several years, served as the church accountant for six years, was the resident church historian, and sang in the church choir.

Hee Jung enjoyed singing, cooking and caring for her friends and family. She especially loved spending time with all of her grandchildren. She was generous, compassionate and truly cared for everyone. She always placed others before herself and loved making people smile.

The family will meet friends from 4-7 p.m. on Sunday, June 29, 2014, at Bisch Funeral Home West located at 2931 S. Koke Mill Rd., Springfield, IL. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, June 30, 2014, at Bisch Funeral Home West with burial to follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
