Joseph "Joe" Alexander Perry Sr.

SPRINGFIELD, IL - Joseph "Joe" Alexander Perry Sr., 73, departed this life on July 4, 2014, at St. John's Hospital.

He was born June 4, 1941, in Chicago, Ill., the son of Hilda Louise Perry-Jackson and Henry Williams. Mr. Perry was a caretaker for his mother. He always worked and took care of his mother until his time of death.

Previously a volunteer athletic coach of all sports for youth.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Beverly Smith; father, Henry Williams; special loved ones to include his great aunt, Cordelia Daniels; great-grandfather, Honorable Deacon Perry of Union Baptist Church; uncle, Wilma Perry; cousins: Marietta Tinsly, Delbert Marshall, Volintina Daniels, Raymond Daniels, William Washington; and "Boot", daughter of Gloria Jenkins.

He leaves to cherish memories, his mother, Hilda Louise Perry-Jackson; sons, Greg of East St. Louis, Ill., Joseph A. Perry Jr. and Joseph A. Perry of Springfield, Ill.; daughter, Elonda; stepdad, Johnnie Albert of Springfield, Ill.; 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Additional loved ones include the mothers of his children: Gloria Jenkins, Donna Ford-Dortch and Earlene Anderson.

Visitation will be held from 10-11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 16, 2014, at Walker Funeral Services, 2300 E. Cook St., Springfield, IL 62703, from 10-11 a.m. The funeral service will follow beginning at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery.

Walker Funeral Services is in charge of arrangements.
