Carl Otto Miller

SPRINGFIELD - Carl Otto Miller, 78, passed away, Saturday, July 19, 2014, at his home.

Carl was born March 23, 1936, in Petersburg to Rudolph and Helen Miller. He graduated from Pleasant Plains High School in 1956. On Sept. 27, 1958, he married the former F. Earlene Turner at Bates Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Malcolm Stewart. Carl was in the Army and employed in many facets through his life serving as a farmer, route salesman for PepsiCo and Archway Cookies, manager of Skateland North in Springfield, laborer at Nudo Products, security guard and most recently worked for Walmart to name a few. He was a loving father, friend and inspiration for many and he would give the shirt off his back for anyone.

Carl was defined by his dedication to the family, relentless work ethic, love of wrestling, passion for dancing, his comedic nature, his love for life, many uses for duct tape and his addictive smile. Carl could be found almost every weekend at Boonedocks cutting up the floor with his favorite hat.

Carl is survived by his wife, Earlene; five children: Tom (Vivian) of Miami, Carlene (Rick) Fagg of New Berlin, Fred (Stacy) of Springfield, Tami (John) Ferguson of Rochester, and Trent (life partner, Tom) of West Chester, Ohio; eight grandchildren: Josh Miller, Raylene Bradley, Dale Ferguson, Steven Miller, Brooke Miller, Breanna Bradley, Austin Miller and Shiann Ferguson; four step grandchildren: Nicole and Ricci Fagg, Misty Leonard and Danielle Gentry; seven step great-grandchildren: Kobe, Kali, Rilee, Tristan, Richard, Gabriella and Jasmine; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Rudolph and Helen; his grandparents; two brothers, Henry and Richard; and a sister, Betty.

Visitation: 4-7 p.m., Wednesday, July 23, 2014, at Vancil-Murphy Funeral Home, 437 S. Grand Ave. West, Springfield, IL.

A private family service will be held.
