RIVERTON, IL - James P. Van Kleek, 59, died Sunday, July 27, 2014, at his residence in Riverton.

James was born April 7, 1955, in Kansas City, Mo., the son of Robert and Clella Wise Van Kleek. He married Janie Cornell on July 20, 2002, in Springfield.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force retiring in 1993 after 20 years of service. He worked at the Air Combat Museum and Garrett Aviation. He helped start, and was director of, the Aviation School at Lincoln Land Community College. He was a member of Richland Creek Baptist Church, V.F.W. and C.A.F. He was an inspector for the FAA and a pilot. He loved to fly.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Steve Van Kleek.

He is survived by his wife, Janie Van Kleek of Riverton; seven children: Jennifer Van Kleek and Michell (Kevin) Simons both of Omaha, Neb., Molly Cornell of Dawson, Joshua Cornell of Decatur, Zachary (Arica) Cornell of Warrensburg, Megan Cornell of Decatur and adopted son, Donnie (Christa) Van Kleek of Royse City, Texas; six brothers and sisters: David, Delvan, Rosella, Rayma Jo, Rachel and Mary; 10 grandchildren: Gena, Colton, baby Simons, Karmynn, Kaley, Alexandra, Carter, Payton, Austin and Noah; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Thursday, July 31, 2014, at Ellinger-Kunz & Park Funeral Home, 530 N. 5th St., Springfield. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 1, 2014, at the funeral home with the Rev. Keith Masten officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery where the Inter-Veterans Burial Detail will conduct honors.
