James E. "Woody" Collier
SPRINGFIELD – James E. "Woody" Collier, 91, passed away Thursday, Aug. 7, 2014, at Heritage Heath Center.
He was born Aug. 5, 1923, in Harrodsburg, Ky., to Pitts and Sue (Williams) Collier. He married Ruth Elaine Palmer in Springfield.
He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; three sons: Gregory James, Douglas Elwood and David John Collier; daughter, Cindy Collier; grandson, Trenton James Collier; and sisters, Louise Beagles and Marleen Collier Steskal.
Woody was a U.S. Army veteran serving in WWII in Alaska and the Aleutian Islands. He retired from his lifelong work as an auctioneer and livestock dealer.
He is survived by two daughters, Cheryl Lynn (Karl) Lercher of Springfield and Jaymee (Todd) McAllister of Lincoln; a son, Jeffrey (Jeanette) P. Collier of Bloomington; daughter-in-law, Mary L. Collier of Dunlap, Tenn.; two brothers, Harold and Forrest Collier; two sisters, Mildred Brown and Coreen Collier; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
At Woody's request, remains will be cremated and no services will be held.
