Evan "Ish" O. Moss
SPRINGFIELD, IL - Evan "Ish" O. Moss, 87, of Springfield, passed away at 8:13 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 15, 2014 at St. John's Hospice.
He was born June 16, 1927, in Bates, Ill., the son of William A. and Beulah Lowe Moss.
Evan graduated from Springfield High School. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1945 and served in the Philippines.
He married Shirley J. Sidener in 1950 and they had three children. They later divorced. He later married Barbara Wilcox in 1980.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Lemuel Moss; sister, Judy Smith; and stepdaughter, Lori Puckett.
Evan was employed at Richardson Manufacturing Co. for 41 years as a machinist, retiring in 1989. After retirement, he worked for Bill Richardson for several years on the Richardson farm.
He was a talented, gifted man and he loved to share those talents. His true love was working with wood. He built two houses and leaves a long legacy of projects from picture frames to furniture. He loved to fish and hunt, respected his cars, and was always working on them and making repairs. He also enjoyed watching basketball. Later, he spent hours doing carpentry work for family and friends. He was a member of New Salem United Methodist Church and volunteered as a St. John's Samaritan.
He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Barbara; his children, Terry L. (wife, Julee) Moss of Springfield, Cathy (husband, Tony) Annerino of Dawson and Peggy (husband, Lenny) Reynolds of Springfield; stepdaughter, Lynne (husband, Chris) Kusnerick of Maryville; nine grandchildren: Derek L. (wife, Jes) Moss, Scott A. (wife, Stacy) Moss, Ryan E. Moss, Jessica (husband, Mark) Adkins, Brian Kusnerick, Jason Kusnerick, Justin Bodine, David Peterson and Aaron Puckett; two great-grandchildren; brother, Leroy (wife, Judy) Moss; sister-in-law, Alice Moss; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation: Family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m., Monday, Aug. 18, 2014, at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield.
Funeral Ceremony: 11 a.m., Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2014 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home with the Rev. Roger McIntire officiating.
Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
