Alfred Gustav Dudda

SPRINGFIELD - Alfred Gustav Dudda, 97, went to be with his Lord at 3:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 2, 2014.

Alfred was born on Feb. 5, 1917, to Gustav A. Dudda and Emma M. (Rostek) in Springfield.

He proudly served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the North American Theater in Alaska and the Aleutian Islands and also in the Pacific Theater including the Philippines, Pacific Islands, and Japan in both the Combat Engineers and Amphibious Assault Forces. Alfred served in the Battles of Southern Philippines and New Guinea and was awarded two Bronze Stars for those campaigns.

Al met his future wife, Wilma Murray, at Moonlight Gardens in Springfield where they both were active in skating groups. They were married Oct. 25, 1947, at Trinity Lutheran Church. They shared 64 years together.

He was employed by Schnepp and Barnes Printing Company for his entire career.

He enjoyed helping others, especially neighbor friends. Al liked to do latchhook, work in his garage, and build and repair things. After retirement, he especially enjoyed driving vehicles for a number of local car dealerships.

Preceding him in death were his parents; wife, Wilma M. Dudda; sisters, Gertrude E. Hoggatt, Grace A. Selinger and Louise Dudda.

He is survived by three children, Darlene Moore (John) of Pleasant Plains, Linda Dickerson (Russ) and Alan Dudda, both of Springfield. Grandchildren, Matthew Dickerson of Streamwood and Andrew Dickerson (fiancé, Steffany Mizeur) of Springfield; brother-in-law, James R. Selinger (Maryellen) of St. Peters, Mo.; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation: 10:30-11:30 a.m., Monday, Sept. 8, 2014, at Concordia Lutheran Church.

Funeral Service: 11:30 a.m., Monday, Sept. 8, 2014, at Concordia Lutheran Church with Reverend James Hennig and Reverend Michael Koschmann officiating.

Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery where the Sangamon County Inter-Veterans Burial Detail and U.S. Army will conduct military honors.
