CHATHAM - Doris Wilma Burke, 83, of Chatham died at her residence at 3:26 a.m. Saturday, July 25, 2009.
Doris was born on Jan. 24, 1926, in Beardstown, to Robert C. and Rosalie Lashbrook Sparks. She graduated from Springfield High School and Brown's Business College. From 1945 to 1946, Doris was a student nurse in the U.S. Cadet Nurse Corps.
Following her marriage to Jack Roy Burke on May 15, 1948, they moved to Chatham, where Doris was a homemaker. She was also an active member of Southern View Chapel, where she worshipped her Lord and shared His love with everyone.
Doris is survived by her husband, Jack; daughters, Sarah (husband, Doug) Cantrall of New Berlin and Virginia (husband, Mark "Tanker") Cook of Buffalo; son, Kenneth Mark (wife, Elaine) Burke of Chatham; sister, Betty Fleetwood of Stuart, Fla.; nephew, Robert Fleetwood of Stuart, Fla.; grandchildren, Robert (wife, Staci) Bergen, Rebecca (husband, Eric) Osterman, Lauren Burke, Ariel (husband, Chatham) Marshall, Connor Cantrall, Shaylan Cantrall; great-grandchildren, Alexus Bergen and Gavin Osterman.
She was preceded in death by her son, Loren in 1979 and brother-in-law, Earl Fleetwood.
A memorial service will be Sunday, July 26, 2009, at 5:30 p.m. at Southern View Chapel, 4500 S. Second Street, Springfield, with Pastor Gary Gilley officiating. Following the service the family will greet friends. A private burial will follow at Chatham Memorial Cemetery.
If one desires, memorials may be made to Southern View Chapel or Jews for Jesus.
