TAYLORVILLE - Kevin William Thomas 38, of Taylorville passed away at 10:44 a.m. Friday October 8, 2010 at South Fork Township in Taylorville. He was born on October 27, 1971 in Springfield to Kenneth Ray and Kay Elizabeth (Schweitzer) Thomas. He married Jolene Bezdek-Smaage Thomas in Springfield on June 2010 she survives.

He is survived by his parents of Taylorville, his children: Hunter and Madison Thomas (mother, Kandi Hamell) and step children:Noah, Luke , Kate and Alexa Smaage, two nephews David and Doug Thomas both of Taylorville, one brother Terry Thomas and wife Rhonda of Taylorville, one sister Tammy Hamilton of Bolingbrook, IL., and his in-laws Byron and Juanita Bezdek of Lisbon, OH.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents William and Hemma Thomas, and Charles and Gladys Schweitzer, and one cousin Michael Schweitzer.

He was a 1989 graduate of Taylorville High School. He was Mechanic for Dominion Power for nearly 20 years.

Kevin was a man of integrity, full of honesty and respect for others. He placed a high value on hard work and loyalty and lived out these values daily. He had a sense of humor that pulled others in and he made friends easily. He loved passionately and had planned to travel with his family in the coming years. Family was the most important thing to Kevin, taking on the challenge of being a full-time single father for several years preceding his death. He met and married Jolene and her children on June 4, 2010, and joined their families together. Kevin farmed for 6 years with his brother Terry as Thomas Brothers Farms. He was an avid waterfowl hunter and Eagle Scout. Kevin was conscientious of nature, a true outdoorsman and sportsman. He leaves a legacy of love for his family and an imprint on the hearts of all who knew him. He will be greatly missed.

Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Monday at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville, IL., where services will be at 7 p.m. Monday with Rev. Jeff Mayfield officiating. Cremains will be scattered on the family farm at a later date.

Memorials may be made to an Education fund for his children.
