To the Davlin family,
Death is nothing at all
It does not count.
I have only slipped away into the next room.
Everything remains as it was.
The old life that we lived so fondly together is untouched, unchanged.
Whatever we were to each other, that we are still.
Call me by the old familiar name.
Speak of me in the easy way which you always used.
Put no sorrow in your tone.
Laugh as we always laughed at the little jokes that we enjoyed together.
Play, smile, think of me, pray for me.
Let my name be ever the household word that it always was.
Let it be spoken without effort
Life means all that it ever meant. It is the same as it ever was.
There is unbroken continuity.
Why should I be out of mind because I am out of sight?
I am but waiting for you, for an interval, somewhere very near, just around the corner.
All is well, Nothing is hurt; nothing is lost.
One brief moment and all will be as it was before.
How we shall laugh at the trouble of parting, when we meet again.
We shall see Tim's smiling Irish eyes again, just around the corner. Until then, we will all miss him.
My heartfelt sympathy -
Marcia Kolinski Bain

To Norene and the Davlin family,
On behalf of the Kolinski family (George & Elaine and my siblings Diane, Mark, and Karen) we wish all of you our heartfelt sympathy. To the Davlin family,
Meeting Tim at the State Fair a couple of years ago, it was clear that he still had that same infectious smile that he had as a young boy. And, he still remembered his classmates from 40 years ago. I have such great memories of those days at Blessed Sacrament. Little did we know back then that our classmate would one day grow up to lead and to serve the city of Springfield.
May the many thoughts and prayers of those who have been impacted by Tim’s zeal for life bring you comfort.
God’s abundant Grace and Peace be with you!

Norene, Kevin and all of the family members of Tim Davlin. My heartfelt thoughts and prayers go out to you at this time. Tim was just one of those kinda guys that after you met him you couldn`t forget him. He was out going , personable and if he knew you he had a knack of remembering your name or a place where he had met you. Tim had a smile that wouldn`t quit and everyone that had contact with him will always remember that about him. He was always helping people when he could and when he couldn`t it disapointed him. Although he left us way to soon , he did soo much in the 53 years he was on this earth. He will be missed by his family and the many many friends that he had. Stories and memories of him will last forever ! RIP Tim

May God give all of you strength and peace.

Davlin Family,
Very sorry for your loss. Tim was a nice & wonderful man. Had a great smile. He was good with people. He was the only mayor that I ever met. He took time with the people. He will be missed tremendously. Anyone that follows in his footsteps as mayor will have big shoes to fill.

My sincere sympathy goes out to the Davlin family. I had the pleasure to meet this most wonderful family in 2000, when I took a trip to Irleland with my daughter and close friend. I immediately was taken with this warm, loving man. through the years we have met again at different functions, and he still was that warm loving man I first meet. It is beyond belief that this wonderful light has gone out. Not only will he be missed by family and close friends, but the entire community of Springfield will never see another Mayor who cared as much for this Capital City as Tim did. God Bless his family. The heavens gained another star. For I will never forget the light that shone in Tim's eyes.

I did not know Tim personally but would like to send my sincere condolences to his family members and to all of his close friends. YOU indeed will miss Tim's smile, and his presence the most but the entire City of Springfield and surrounding cities in our State dolefully grieve over the loss of a truly great man who always showed perseverance in all his endeavors. We as a whole will never fully understand the reality of Tim’s demise but with hope I pray that none of us will ever forget him…a person of enormous optimism and grace.
May God bless you Tim!
Amen.

I was absolutely stunned and heartbroken over hearing about the Mayor's passing. I wanted to bawl, and I've only met the man once. My heart leaps out to the family. Gosh, it is painfully obvious that Tim was SO very loved. I say "Tim" because that is so apparent about who he was...as great a mayor and ambassador for the city that he was...he's still Tim, and I offer that as a deep compliment. He obviously had a gift of helping others feel better about themselves and that they were SOMEBODY. I mean, when you think about it...is there any higher gift you can give than that?
God bless you, Tim. God bless you, Davlin family. God bless you, close friends. We don't always know what's going on in the heart of the person next to us...the person we work with...the person we pass on the street...the person waiting for food at The Breadline...the car we want to shake a fist at for cutting us off in traffic...
Let's make sure that we are all more in tune, and more sensitive, to that...especially those closest to us. "How you doin'?" should be more than just a generic greeting. There should be listening eyes and an open heart behind that question.
Tara, I will take your advice. Thank you. And I hope all of Springfield and those who are aware of the news will do so as well.
NORENE...YOUR SON WAS LOVED!

Tim was one of the first people I met when I moved to Springfield 30 years ago.
Amazingly enough, he was one of the first FedEx deliveries I made a couple of years later.
And through my job, I've had the pleasure of meeting most of the family.
I will always remember Tim striding through the mall (looking EVERY so much Mr. GQ) on his way to Macys grand opening - yet taking the time for a hug and few minutes of chitchat.
As well as a few weeks ago, sitting at Walgreens pharmacy discussing his "lack of tears."
You have tears aplenty now, dear man.
As always, I'll honk when I drive by.
My prayers will be with you all.

I remember when I interviewed Mayor davlin for career day, and he was supposed to call me for the interview at 3:00 and it was about 2:30 when I was watching the news and saw that their was a suspicious package found at a state building and all the HazMat crews were there and what not and I remember thinking that he probably would not be able to call me today, but nonetheless right at 3:00, I received a call from Mayor Davlin. I remember asking Mayor Davlin what he believed was his greatest achievement as Mayor and he said, "constructing and opening the Dallman 4 unit at CWLP" What a great man he was for Springfield and for Illinois. Mayor Davlin never forgot who he was and where he came from and that is something that needs to be said about our politicians today! Rest in peace Mayor Timothy J. Davlin.

Although, I only had the pleasure of seeing Tim a few times, he meant the world to my parents. Like Tim, my dad loves the city of Springfield. After being a firefighter for nearly 30 years, Tim provided my dad one of his proudest moments on the force when he promoted him to Chief. He also convinced my dad to make probably his only foray into politics, when he encouraged him to run for alderman. We will forever be grateful to Tim for providing my family with these moments.
The city of Springfield has lost a great one. In due time, I hope all of the great memories help ease a little of the pain and sorrow of your loss.

Though I have not lived many of my adult years in Springfield, a large piece of my heart remains there, keeping me rooted to the pains and joys of my hometown, and so I wanted to express my sorrow over the news of Tim Davlin's death.
I was very touched when Mayor Davlin, at the head of a line of Springfield Police Officers, came to my mother's visitation to pay respect to the family of one of their own, my brother. I didn't know who this striking, light-haired man was at the time and nothing in his posture or words suggested that I should. What I remember was a very sincere kindness as he shook my hand and offered words of condolence.
To his family and friends, I offer my wishes that good memories will soon ease the pain of your profound loss, and that the warmth that he offered to our community comes back to you ten-fold.
