Joseph L. Jennings

CHATHAM - Joseph L. Jennings, 87, of Chatham, passed away Friday, January 21, 2011 at Memorial Medical Center.

He was born in Girard, IL October 21, 1923 the son of Irving and Anna Eileen Rucker Jennings. He married Barbara Braham, May 29, 1966 and she preceded him in death June 22, 1996. He was also preceded in death by 4 brothers.

Joe enlisted and proudly served in the United States Army during WW II from 1943-1946 achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was a long time member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church where he served as the church treasure. He was most recently a member of the New Hope Seventh Day Adventist Church.

Joe was an accountant for the Wholesale Business Machine Co. He never fully retired. He was still working part-time as recently as this past Friday.

He loved his family and was an avid gardener. He will be missed greatly.

Surviving are his children; Joseph (wife Tammy) Jennings, of Springfield, Jonathan (wife Vanessa) Jennings of Hinsdale, IL, Deborah Jennings of Charleston, SC, Katherine (husband Mark) Cutro and David (wife Beth) Jennings, both of Tampa, FL., 8 grandchildren; Daniel, Cassie, Mya, Michael, Jennings, Christopher, Amanda and Alexis Cutro, Zachary and Olivia Jennings, two sisters; Doris Bouillen and Norma Thoron both of Girard, IL, and Curtis (wife Faye) Jennings of Harrisburg, IL as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Arrangements are under the direction of Bisch and Son Funeral Home 505 E. Allen, Springfield where visitation will be Tuesday January 25, 2011 from 4-7 pm. Funeral services will be held at 10 am Wednesday January 26, 2011 at the Seventh Day Adventist Church 3168 W. Jefferson, Springfield, IL with Rev. Tom Ferguson and Elder John Jagitsch officiating. Burial will follow in Chatham Cemetery, Chatham, IL The Inter-Veterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County will provide military honors at the graveside.
