Larry Lee Barnett

SPRINGFIELD - Larry Lee Barnett, 64, of Springfield, peacefully passed away on Friday, November 11, 2011 at his home surrounded by the family he so loved.

He was born on December 22, 1946 in Springfield, the son of the late Lawrence Alvin and Vera Margaret (Trumbo) Barnett. Larry's dad died when Larry was a young boy. His mom later married Marvin Franklin Dempsey who, along with his mom, helped raise Larry. Larry married Mary Lynette Tranquilli on March 15, 1969 at St. James Church in Riverton, IL and they were happily married for 42 years.

Larry worked as a sales representative and account manager for Maxwell House Coffee and Kraft Foods for 30 years. After retirement, he sold real estate for Charles Robbins. He was an avid fisherman and a die-hard and faithful Cubs fan! He loved to travel and truly enjoyed landscaping. Most of all he loved his children and grandchildren and was very involved with them and their activities. He was a member of the Greenview Presbyterian Church, Greenview Rotary Club, Amvets, and served two terms on the Greenview School Board.

Larry honorably served his country in the U.S. Navy from May 1965 to November 1969. He served on the U.S.S Shasta ammunition ship in Vietnam and later on the U.S.S. Markab until it was decommissioned in 1969.

He is survived by his wife Mary Lynette, a daughter Nicole (husband Kevin) Willis of Petersburg, IL and a son Chris (wife Cara) Barnett of Springfield, 3 grandchildren, Jessica and Griffin Willis, and Taryn Barnett, a sister Diana (husband Dale) Hedrick or Chatham, IL, 2 brothers-in-law, Ron (wife Young Soon) Tranquilli of Geneva, IL and Terry (wife Janie) Tranquilli of Springfield, and a sister-in-law, Tallulah Redeford of Springfield, two aunts and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, mother, stepfather, and a nephew.

Services are under the direction of Bisch Funeral Home West, 2931 S. Koke Mill Rd, Springfield where memorial visitation will be held on Thursday, November 17, 2011 from 5 to 7 p.m. Memorial services will be held on Friday, November 18, 2011 at 9:30 am at the funeral home, with Rev. Joseph Eby officiating. Inurnment will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery, Springfield. Memorials may be made to St. John's Home Health, or to the Siteman Cancer Center at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO.
