John F. Gaio
SPRINGFIELD - John F. Gaio, 84, of Springfield, passed away at 5:40 a.m. on April 2, 2012 at St. John's Hospital.
John was born July 30, 1927 in Springfield, the son of Joseph and Dargesa Zaccagni Gaio. He married Angela Schuckhardt on July 10, 1948.
John was a graduate of Lanphier High School, where he played the trumpet in the band, ran track, and pole vaulted. He continued playing the trumpet in the 1940's with the Bobby K Band and other local bands in and around Springfield. He was a fan of the Glenn Miller Band. He worked at Sangamo Electric for 32 years and at Dickey John for 15 years.
John enjoyed cooking for his family, especially Italian dishes and holiday cookies, as he was proud of his Italian Heritage. He kept a well–manicured yard and a large vegetable garden. He enjoyed antiquing with his wife and daughter, boating and fishing at their camper at Otter Lake, goose hunting with family, traveling, especially to Estes Park, Colorado and Florida beaches, and watching Notre Dame football. John was very devoted to his wife and especially during her terminal illness. He was a very devoted, loving and affectionate father, grandfather, brother, and uncle. Words cannot express how greatly he will be missed by his family and others who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Angela, of 60 years; a sister-in-law, Rita Farley; and brother-in-law, Bill (wife, June) Schuckhardt.
He is survived by his daughters, Connie S. Gaio and Denese (husband, David) Pfeiffer, both of Springfield; four grandchildren, Jessica Pfeiffer (husband, Randy Fiscus), Joshua, Ashley, and Nicholas Pfeiffer, all of Springfield; one great-grandchild, Matthew Pfeiffer; one brother, George (wife, Pat) Gaio of Springfield; uncle, Al Zaccagni of Springfield; brother-in-law, Frank Farley of Springfield; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; and the family golden retriever, Mandy.
Cremation was accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center.
