Opal L. Wilson

PETERSBURG - Opal L. Wilson, 90, of Petersburg, passed away at 5:15 p.m. on June 25, 2012 at Memorial Medical Center.

Opal was born January 17, 1922 in Stover, Missouri, the daughter of Samuel and Nellie Jones Burnett. She married James Wilson on July 19, 1938 in Pittsfield; he preceded her in death.

Opal was retired from Rushville Hospital as a nursing assistant. She accomplished many things in her life including surviving open heart surgery, surviving ovarian cancer, and making 15 quilts. She was known for being honest, thoughtful, faithful, and loving. In her spare time, she enjoyed quilting, needlepoint, music, jigsaw puzzles, word searches, cooking and baking pies.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; sister, Hazel Ford; two brothers, David and Dorsey Burnett; daughter, Patricia Strong; son-in-law, Floyd Shade; and grandson, Ryan Strong.

She is survived by her son, James (Marge) Wilson, of Clark, MO; daughters, Linda (Dale) Traughber and Judy Shade, both of Springfield; three sisters, Wilma Greene of Lee Summit, MO, Mildred Summers of Versailles, MO, and Lucille Helm of Troy, MO; eight grandchildren; and fifteen great-grandchildren.

Cremation will be accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center.

Visitation: Family will receive friends on Saturday, June 30, 2012 from 12:30 to 2:00 p.m. at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield.

Funeral Ceremony: 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 30, 2012 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home with Rev. David Hamilton officiating. Burial will be held at a later date at Wataga Cemetery.
