Springfield - Mrs. Olan Elliott, 94, of Springfield, formerly of Decatur departed this life on Tuesday, July 10, 2012 at Oak Terrace Healthcare Center.
Olan was born on March 22, 1918 in Springfield to the union of William H. Murrell and Sarah Francis Robinson Murrell. In 1940, she became a member of the St. Peter AME Church where she played the piano and organ. She also was a Trustee Board member, Sunday School teacher and class leader. She was married to Marland Elliott who preceded her in death. She established the Marland Elliott Scholarship Fund which awarded scholarships to many students at St. Peter's. She formerly worked at Marvel Schebler, a division of Borg Warner, and was a member of the American Business Women's Association (SOYA Chapter).
Olan was the last surviving daughter out of 14 children. She leaves many nieces, nephews and friends to forever cherish her memories.
Mrs. Olan Elliott truly cared and did a lot for people. Her loving spirit and her presence will be missed.
Homegoing Service will be held 11:00 A.M Monday, July 16, 2012 at St. Peter AME Church, Decatur with Rev. Peggie Senor, officiating. Visitation is one hour before service at the church. Burial: Greenwood Cemetery, Decatur. Professional Services entrusted to Walker Funeral Service.
