Dr. Duane C. Greenhalgh

PETERSBURG - Dr. Duane C. Greenhalgh, 75 of Petersburg passed away Friday, July 13, 2012 in his home. He was born June 20, 1937, the son of Carl and Lillian (Doud) Greenhalgh on the family farm outside Oakford, IL . On September 3, 1961 he married Judith Jane Moss at the First Baptist Church of Petersburg.

Duane is survived by his wife, sons Michael (Priscilla), Dale (Diana) Greenhalgh and nine grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Stanley and sister-in-law Sandra.

Mr. Greenhalgh was a member of the Sandridge New Hope Baptist Church where he was a Deacon and Adult Sunday School Teacher. He greatly enjoyed traveling and spending time with his family. Duane served four years with the United States Navy, having served in Adak, AK and Morocco as a Communications Technician Third Class. Mr. Greenhalgh was a teacher in Piper City, New Holland and a substitute teacher for Mason and Menard County Schools. He was a guidance counselor in New Holland/Middletown and taught at Lincoln Land Community College. Duane was a graduate of Harris High School, class of 1955. He received his B.A. in History and his M.A. in Psychology from Eastern Illinois University and received his Ed.D. in Psychology from McNeese State University. He retired in 1997 from the Veteran's Administration where he was a counseling psychologist for 26 years. During his tenure he was in Augusta, ME; Peoria, IL; Shreveport, LA; Phoenix and Tucson, AZ and St. Louis, MO. In addition he put his skills to good use serving others through private counseling.

Funeral service will be Monday, July 16, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. in the Hurley Funeral Home with the Rev. Delbert Penrod officiating. Visitation will be Sunday, July 15, 2012 from 6:00-8:00 in the funeral home and will continue Monday one hour prior to the funeral service. Interment will follow in Oakland Cemetery, Petersburg, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to the Sandridge New Hope Baptist Church.
