PETERSBURG - Harriett L. Culver Shaw, 94, of Petersburg, passed away on Tuesday, November 13, 2012 at Sunny Acres Nursing Home in Petersburg. She was born on November 12, 1918 in the Indian Point community near Athens to Harry and Leona Hutcherson Culver. She married William F. Shaw on December 25, 1941.
Harriett was preceded in death by her husband on December 19, 1981. She was also preceded by her sister, Helen Selcke.
She is survived by two daughters, Sally (Jose Luis) Moreno of Cancun, Mexico and Jane (Terry) Cutright of Petersburg; 2 grandchildren, Melanie (Scott) Durham of Gainesville, GA and Jason (Angie) Cutright of Petersburg; and 5 great grandchildren.
Harriett formerly worked at Schirding State Bank and retired from CIPS. She was also former president of Petersburg Observer Co. Inc.
Harriett was a member of First Christian Church of Petersburg and had been active in the Menard County Historical Society, Petersburg Women's Club, Pierre Menard DAR, Questers, Ansarettes, and Daughters of the Nile. She was selected as Petersburg's First Citizen in 1992.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, November 17, 2012 at 11:00am at First Christian Church of Petersburg with pastor Rick Williams officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior. She will be laid to rest at Oakland Cemetery in Petersburg. Memorial contributions may be made to First Christian Church of Petersburg or Shriners Hospitals for Children.
