John T. Rodgers
John T. "J.T." Rodgers, 67, of Springfield, died at 8:27 a.m. on Saturday, January 19, 2013, after a long courageous fight against reoccurring brain cancer, at Memorial Medical Center.
J.T. was born June 11, 1945 in Springfield, the son of Ralph S. and Loretta R. Parson Rodgers. J.T. married Leona Amaya on December 31, 1990 in Springfield.
J.T. attended Springfield High School and Lincoln Land Community College. He proudly served his country aboard the nuclear powered submarine, USS Thomas A. Edison SSBN 610. He also served in the Naval Reserve and the Illinois National Guard (3637th Mtce. Co.). He retired from Lefebure/Mosler Banking Equipment Manufacturers as a Field Sales Engineer after 23 years of service. J.T. also retired in 2008 from the Sangamon County Sheriff's Department as a Correctional Officer. He then was employed as a Tour Bus Driver for three different companies. J.T. later started "Retirement Home Entertainment Solutions by J.T.", where he would entertain residents of many local retirement homes and hospitals, by singing and playing the accordion and piano.
J.T. had been a member of the Ansar Shrine Temple, past member of Central Lodge #71 AF&AM, and member of the Land of Lincoln Barbershop Chorus. He was also a candidate for the Sangamon County Board, District #7 in 1990 and 1992, where he was also a Republican Precinct Committeeman.
J.T. was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph S. and Loretta R.; an infant son, Thomas; and a brother, Ralph II.
He is survived by his wife, Leona of Springfield; daughter, Reva Lynn McKillop (husband, Bob) of Interlachen, FL; son, John T. "JJ" Rodgers (wife, Susan) of Dahlonega, GA; and four grandchildren.
Visitation: Family will receive friends from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 24, 2013 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. There will be a prayer service at 4:30 p.m. At 5:00 p.m. there will be a walk-through by the Sangamon County Sheriff's Office, Division of Corrections.
Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. on Friday, January 25, 2013 at Church of the Little Flower, 800 Stevenson Dr., Springfield with Rev. Msgr. John R. Ossola, celebrant.
Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery with military honors.
