Carl H. Knous
Carl H. Knous, 86 of Petersburg passed away on Monday, February 11, 2013, at Sunny Acres Home. He was born in Alexander, IL on March 29, 1926 to J.W. and Margaret (Hermes) Knous. Carl married Carole Hubbartt on July 3, 1954. She survives.
Carl is also survived by two daughters, Sherry (Steve) Hofing of Champaign and Carrie (Jim) Oller of Athens; grandchildren Jenny (Bimal) Vyas of Winston-Salem, N.C.; Kristy (Gerald) Wilson of Champaign, Matthew Oller of Athens; three great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, five step-grandchildren and many step- great grandchildren. Brothers Glenn (Bev) Knous, Albert Knous (June Cherry) of Petersburg, one sister Dorothy Clark of Florida and sister-in-law Emmy Hubbartt of Florida. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Martha Borah and Ethel Hedger and one brother Francis "Bud" Knous.
Carl attended St. James Trade School in Springfield until enlisting in the Marines early in 1943. He served in the South Pacific and Okinawa for two years and was one of five Marines out of 250 men that returned unharmed.
Carl joined his father in the building business and was a builder for over 50 years. He was an avid hunter and was involved with the Petersburg Jaycee's, City Council, American Legion, VFW, Junior Chamber of Commerce, Volunteer Fireman for 29 years, Lake Petersburg Board, Ducks Unlimited, and was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church.
Funeral Mass will be Saturday, February 16, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. in St Peter Catholic Church with Fr. James Palakudy officiating. Visitation will be Saturday from 9:00 until time of Mass in the church. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Memorials may be made to a
Hurley Funeral Home in Petersburg assisted the Knous family with arrangements.
